More Medical Assisted Weight Loss Programs May Be the Key to Controlling Obesity

Obesity is a growing problem in our society. What is even more serious is that obesity can lead to additional medical problems including heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, and cancer. This could put a strain on healthcare if it is not controlled better, especially as we move toward healthcare reform. Will effective medical weight loss programs become more available - even for those who are not morbidly overweight? Chances are quite possible.

People Continue to Try Losing Weight the Wrong Way

Meanwhile, it's not as though people aren't trying to lose weight. Otherwise the latest fad diet wouldn't become so popular so fast. Of course, people who do try these fad diets find that while the diet may work short term, the weight generally comes back - sometimes even extra.

The unhealthy starvation, the basis of most fad diets, not only ruins metabolism, but the post weight gain then affects the person psychologically. This makes it even more difficult to lose weight.

Medical Assisted Weight Loss is Only for Extreme Obesity?

Of course, another way to lose weight is through bariatric surgery. Yet this type of medical weight loss offers many options for an extremely overweight patient (morbidly obese). As it continues to prove success for such patients, however, it appears that newer, even safer procedures, such as gastric banding are emerging.

To explain how the bariatric surgical process is evolving: Gastric banding is a bariatric surgery procedure that is less invasive, is adjustable and reversible, plus it can be performed on an outpatient basis. In addition, gastric banding requires the patient to follow a stringent follow-up process with the support coming from either their surgeon or another weight loss medical professional.

Why Do Doctors and Patients Avoid Talking About Obesity?

So it seems that bariatric surgery is popular enough for such improvements to be made in the area of medical weight loss. Or is it that popular? Recent studies are still finding that patients and doctors are not talking to each other about obesity, as reported in a recent article by Medical News Today.

What's more, these studies have found that following surgery, the feeling from both the bariatric patients and the doctors is that they wish they would have addressed the issue sooner, since bariatric surgery works so successfully. The Obesity Action Coalition couldn't agree more. In fact, they expect healthcare professionals to do more, like discuss other weight loss options besides surgery.

Unfortunately, it is something that is not done. Perhaps it would be if it were covered by insurance. This, of course, may require additional training for healthcare professionals in the area medical assisted weight loss. In the long run, though, it may be worth the training.

Insurance Proposal May Pave the Way for Improvements

Well it may just change to this. For instance, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has recently proposed to begin allowing obesity as a covered diagnosis, in attempt to lower the obesity rate.

This may mean big changes in the healthcare community and society in general as we head toward healthcare reform. Finally, people will get the help they need to make necessary lifestyle changes to improve their quality of life.

Until then, if you are suffering from weight issues, talk to your healthcare professional. The more people who make these requests, the more medical weight loss offerings may become available sooner.

How To Lose Weight: Are You Obese Or Overweight? What's The Difference? Learn How To Diet

The basic difference between obesity and overweight is one of degree. Both apply to a condition of carrying more weight than is considered than is conducive to good health.

Both conditions result from an imbalance between the number of calories eaten and the number of calories used up by means of normal body functions, and physical exercise. When a balance between calories in and out is achieved body weight will be normal.

You must learn proper nutrition, and what makes a diet the "correct diet", to protect your health. The correct diet includes portion control, as well as avoidance of added sugar; (of course there are other factors too).

There are a variety of factors that influence how quickly our bodies naturally burn calories. Genetics (what we inherit from our ancestors), eating the wrong kinds of food (high fat), and the kind of work we do, all play a part in achieving "balance". In uncommon instances illness or disease may play a part. For example, some kinds of kidney and heart disease as well as thyroid disorders may be responsible for weight gain...either actual increase of tissue, or by retaining fluid. See your doctor for any of these illnesses.

But, even without a predisposition to any of these problems, being overweight or obese will contribute to the development of many disorders, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease, abnormal sleep patterns, arthritis and other joint conditions, and some cancers. Recent studies have shown that losing only five to ten percent of body weight can contribute to overall health and lower risk of becoming sick.

Body mass index (BMI) is a one measurement used to calculate body weight. You can calculate your BM by the following three steps:

Multiply your weight in pounds by 703

Divide the answer by your height in inches

Divide that answer by your height in inches again.

(This formula will not only determine the condition of your body weight, it will also sharpen your brain. If your brain is already sharp enough, you can ask the doctor or nurse to calculate it for you or you can find a BMI calculator online).

If your BMI is calculated between 25 and 25.9, you are overweight; if it is between 30 and 39.9 you are obese; if it is over 40 you are considered to be morbidly obese. There are exceptions to these rules. For example, athletes may have a high BMI because muscle tissue weigh more than fat. Please note: this BMI calculation does not apply to children...consult your physician if you believe your child is overweight.

The reason most adults are overweight is because we are all eating more food than is required for the maintenance of body and health. The extra calories are stored as fat.

Your BMI result is not a foolproof way to determine your state of health. However, it is a highly accurate tool for determining whether your weight is an issue that needs to be corrected.

You now have your BMI number. Now start the correct diet!

Is Personality Type One Of The Causes For Weight Gain?

Here's a first of its kind look at personality and the causes for weight gain during adulthood. A research team has discovered that those who have certain identifiable personality traits are more likely to carry too much weight, or watch the scale go up and down in the unhealthy "yo-yo" pattern.

The researchers looked at data that had been compiled from a longitudinal study conducted over fifty years on just under 2,000 mostly healthy, highly educated subjects to see if there was an association with personality and weight.

Beyond being regularly weighed and measured during the study, participants were analysed on what are known as "big 5? personality traits.

These five are broad categories of traits including:

1) agreeableness,

2) conscientiousness,

3) extraversion,

4) openness and

5) neuroticism.

The categories are meant to cover a wide range between two extremes - in the real world most of us fall somewhere in the middle on all of these.

And while we all know it's natural to put on a bit of weight as we grow older the study found impulsive subjects had a higher risk of being overweight. Those who ranked in the highest 10% on impulsivity were 22 pounds (on average) heavier compared with those in the lowest 10%.

Earlier work has shown that impulsive people are more likely to indulge in binge eating and overconsumption of alcohol, and it may be that these behaviors, over a lifetime add up to weight gain.

Imagine the challenge that adds to making the hard life choices that lead to weight loss.

The thinking goes that people with this particular group of traits are more likely than others be seduced by temptation. It's harder for them to summon the discipline to stick to a healthy eating and exercise plan in the face of all of life's challenges and frustrations. For these personalities, weight management appears to be a most difficult challenge.

But impulsiveness isn't the only personality factor that might put you at risk for weight gain.

Risk takers, antagonistic, competitive, cynical and aggressive people also gained more weight according to the study findings. On the opposite end, conscientious people were found to be slimmer, and their weight didn't set off personality changes in adulthood.

The authors of the study are hoping the work helps to develop more tailored approaches to weight loss, that take personality factors into account. Perhaps group weight loss and support programs for extroverts, private sessions or other interventions tailored just to introverts are practical applications of the research. Anything that might help people manage their weight is a welcome addition to the approaches in use today.

Experts know that the link between personality types and weight gain is most certainly a complex one. There are likely both physiological and behavioral factors involved in the causes for weight gain over our lifetime, still the work gives an intriguing and first ever look at the effect personality might have on weight.

Since So Many Other People Are Fat, Does That Make It OK For You? Learn You Can Lose Weight Easily

Obesity is becoming the "state of the nation". Statistics indicate that two-thirds of adults are either overweight or obese...as are one-third to one-half of our children. This is a dangerous situation because of the documented associated of excess weight with other serious diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

Children who are overweight are at particular risk because they are even more likely to develop obesity-related diseases because by the time they reach adulthood they will already have been overweight for a substantial portion of their lives.

We are "simply" eating too much and exercising too little. Most of us know that the extra pounds aren't good for us...or our kids. We just don't know what to do about it and the problem seems so huge as to be overwhelming...it's easier just to ignore the situation and deal with it later.

We think weight loss is impossible...but it's not. We're making much ado about nothing. Now wait...before you throw something at me, let me explain. The idea of losing weight is typically thought of as starvation, deprivation, tasteless and colorless foods, pills, programs, weigh-ins, sweat bands, pre-packaged foods, calorie counters, and on and on. No wonder we get discouraged.

In fact, "dieting" need not take on a life of its own. Considering the simple fact that extra calories are the cause of the problem, isn't it obvious that we simply need to eat less? If we're not using up enough of our caloric intake, isn't it clear that we need to use more energy? We have allowed the whole prospect to become so daunting that we, like Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind, declare that we will think about it 'tomorrow'. Unfortunately, 'tomorrow' never comes. Therefore, start today!

There is no reason not to start right away to lose the weight you want to lose, and, keep it off!

Also our children are desperately in need of guidance about how to eat properly. We, the adults in their lives, are in charge of making that happen. There are basic principles regarding healthful weight management for all of us, such as:

• Eating a balanced diet every day

• No skipped meals

• Mid meal healthful snacks

• Minimizing junk food and sugary beverages

• A modest exercise program.

Often we overdo both ends of this spectrum. We decide to lose weight...right now...so we embark on a diet and exercise program designed only for birds and Vikings. In other words, we resolve to eat like a bird and train for a marathon. A setup for failure!

In order to lose weight, we need to reduce the intake of all foods and incorporate exercise into our daily lives.

Diet without drugs or any pills, and protect your health. If you're serious, I'll help you.

What Makes Bariatric Bypass Surgery Popular Among Options for Losing Weight?

Approximately over two third of all adults in the country are overweight but more interestingly a third of them are obese. A majority of these people make efforts and seek ways and means of losing weight and as such bariatric bypass surgery is increasingly gaining popularity. Perhaps the question going through your mind right now is what is the meaning or how does bariatric bypass surgery work? If you have these two questions or indeed more questions regarding bariatric bypass surgery, then you can be assured that you are indeed in the right place. It is a name derived from two Greek words; weight and treatment. As such in the simplest of definition the term bariatric is used to denote issues concerned with the causes, prevention as well as treatment of aspects related to overweight, a condition termed as obesity.

It is an amalgamation of a number of procedures performed for or on individuals desiring to lose some considerable amount of weight. The procedure is mainly performed to persons considered to be obese, and the idea here is to reduce the capacity of the stomach with an aim of ensuring that the patient feels comfortable and indeed full after consumption of little amounts of food.

Subsequently bariatric procedures are indeed major gastrointestinal procedures meant to alter the anatomy and/or the capacity of the digestive system. In certain cases, a stomach portion is removed through what is known as the biliopancreatic diversion or sleeve gastrectomy with gastric bypass surgery and duodenal switch. It is recommended for persons who have a body mass index of 35-40 and to individuals with such conditions as diabetes. For this particular case it is considered as a treatment and specifically so for obesity and is very distinct from other cosmetic surgery.

Statistics are revealing that the procedure is of late gaining popularity. For over a decade now the numbers of those seeking is tremendously growing. For example in 2003 over 103, 200 patients underwent the surgery, with the number rising in 2005 to over 171,000. The number is expected to maintain an upward trend as more and more people become aware of the surgery and as obesity continues to affects most of the citizens in this country.

The number of doctors offering the bariatric bypass surgery as well continued to rise and the number double between 2005 and 2006, in fact in 2006 around 1500 bariatric surgeons were registered by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. The most common is the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery and accounted for 92% of all the procedures conducted in 2002. The procedure tightens and makes the stomach of the patient smaller and indeed makes the patient feel full pretty fast when eating.

Diets to Lose Weight Fast - How to Diet

Almost weekly, new diets to lose weight fast hit the market. They may work temporarily, but usually aren't effective in the long haul. Also, it's important not to count the latest best-selling diet among healthy ways to lose weight.

Have you considered "The Omega Diet"? This is a nutrition-based diet adapted from people living on the Island of Crete.

Healthy Ways to Lose Weight

The Omega weight-loss diet offers two plans. One is a 1,500- calorie diet that encourages gradual weight loss and 1,200-calorie diets to lose weight fast.

In scoping out healthy ways to lose weight, one will observe that exercise is literally a section of this food pyramid! Exercise is that important. Exercise complements diets to lose weight fast. It firms and tones your muscles and helps you maintain your healthy weight.

Foods on the Omega Diet

First, there are no unhealthy drugs, which serve to trick your subconscious into thinking you are full. It's just chock-full of high-fiber, low-calorie foods that fill you up.

A typical 1,200 per day menu looks like this:

Breakfast:

2 cottage cheese pancakes

2 T maple syrup

½ t. canola butter

Lunch:

Veggie-burger on multi-grain bun with lettuce and tomato.

1 T canola oil mayonnaise

6 oz vegetable juice

Dinner:

3 oz. skin-less roasted, skin-less chicken breast

½ cup cooked couscous

Green salad with 2-tsp. olive oil vinaigrette

Breakfast and lunch will average about 300 calories; dinner about 500 calories; leaving about 100 calories for healthy snacks.

Here are several 50 calorie healthy snacks:

1 medium peach

1 medium nectarine

4 walnut halves

¼ medium cantaloupe

¾ cup fresh berries

½ ounce of cheese

Dietary Guidelines

American diets are imbalanced. They are too high in omega-6 fatty acids and too low in omega-3 fatty acids. The Omega Diet rectified this by enriching meals with healthy omega 3's. Unless you eat fatty fish at least two times per week, take natural supplements containing omega-3 fatty acids.

Use canola oil or olive oil as your principal oil. Canola oil is low in saturated fat, trans-fatty acids and omega-6 and high in fatty acids and the plant form of omega-3 fatty acids.

Olive oil is a rich tasting healthy oil, which you may find yourself craving! It is lowest oil in saturated fat, high in fatty acids and low in omega-6. However, it does not contain omega-3 fatty acids, so that you will need to obtain them from fish or supplements.

Enjoy seven or more servings of fruits and vegetables daily. It is most unfortunate the average American only eats 3.5 servings per day. Follow European's healthy ways to weight loss by snacking on fresh fruit instead of junk food. Choose fruit for dessert. Eat a minimum of one green salad daily. When you dine out, ordering vegetarian will accomplish the fastest way to weight loss.

Definitely eat more beans, peas and nuts. Nuts, walnuts in particular, are an excellent health food. They will spoil quickly due to omega-3 fatty acids, store in freezer.

Peas and beans may be used as a meat substitute on a tight budget. They are high-fiber and contain vitamins, protein and minerals.

Finally, avoid trans-fatty acids and saturated fat.

Among diets to lose weight fast, which promote healthy ways to lose weight, the Omega is quite people-friendly.

Bariatric (Weight Loss) Surgery - Expensive, Dangerous and Unnecessary!

A recent issue of the American Association of Retired People Bulletin ran a cover story on bariatric (weight loss) surgery in which they touted its many benefits. The article carried stories of people who had lost a great deal of weight after having had the surgery.

There were only two things the article either failed to mention completely or downplayed: costs, and risks and side effects. Both of these extremely important factors were, in a rare demonstration of editorial irresponsibility, left to the reader to discover themselves.

Let's start with costs. According to the Consumer Guide to Bariatric Surgery website, these procedure, depending on which one and where it is performed, can run from $17,000 to $30,000. That does not, however, cover the cost of things like additional plastic surgery, liposuction, labiaplasty, tummy tuck and breast augmentation.

Health insurance providers are just beginning to pay for some of this, but only if fairly stringent requirements are met. Some of these include having a body mass index (BMI) of over 40, which is extreme obesity; or having diabetes or serious heart issues associated with the overweight condition.

And, according to the site, "If your doctor informs the insurance company that the surgery is medically necessary and provides appropriate documentation, including records of your doctor-supervised attempts to lose weight such as drug therapy and group therapy."

Now how about the risks or side effects? The renowned Mayo Clinic website lists a number of very frightening possibilities, such as vitamin and mineral deficiency, dehydration, gallstones and bleeding stomach ulcers just to name a few. It goes on to say that there are rare, but possible, side effects from Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, which is the most popular, of pneumonia, blot clots in the legs, leaking at the staple points and the highly attractive side effect, death.

So now, you've accepted the risks, figure you can live with the side effects and could pony up the 30 grand. Here's what your doctor will tell you, you need to do for it to be really effective: diet, get exercise and change your lifestyle!

Hello! Ever heard that? Before you had your stomach stapled shut?

Here's one of the exciting lifestyle changes: you can't eat things in pieces any bigger than a pencil eraser because it may cause you to vomit or block the outlet of your new super sized stomach - the one reduced in size from 40 ounces to 1-2 ounces.

And here are some of the things you may not be able to eat anymore: meat, except in tiny pieces, well chewed; pasta and bread; and even vegetables can cause problems. What a lifestyle!

There are safe, natural alternatives to weight loss which cost a couple of bucks a day and provide results. But, the issue should be less about the losing the weight and more about preventing it in the first place. The problem comes down to the food supply of the average developed nation, like the US, is incredibly under-nutritious.

In my next article, I'll discuss some of the issues countries like the US face in being able to provide a nutritious diet to their populations.

Bioidentical Hormones and Weight Loss

Everyone knows that losing weight is difficult for most women. Perhaps it is because our bodies work against us if our hormones are not balanced. Therefore, the need for balancing our hormones could be the main issue in weight loss. Bioidentical hormones like the product Amberen may be the answer. Bioidentical hormones are plant based as opposed to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) made of synthetic hormones or animal -derived hormones which may not be assimilated in the human body and could cause even more weight gain problems.

Actually, a woman who has unbalanced hormones has many problems other than weight gain, but weight gain contributes to all her other problems. She may be experiencing all the symptoms of menopause such as lack of energy, loss of libido, loss of energy, irritability and mood swings, trouble concentrating, hot flashes, and night sweats. Weight gain is just one of her problems.

One cause of weight gain and difficulty in losing weight may be a thyroid deficiency. The thyroid gland produces hormones known as T3 and T4. These hormones help our body metabolize calories. Doctors prescribe medicine if they find that we are low in T3 and T4. Often they prescribe Synthroid for hypothyrodism.
Testosterone is another hormone that helps our body metabolize calories and burn fat more efficiently. It also prevents storage of fat around the mid section. If testosterone and progesterone levels decrease leaving us estrogen dominate, we may gain weight and experience severe fatigue.

Bioidentical testosterone regulates hormone levels and helps symptoms such as fatigue and lack of sexual desire. Testosterone is also connected to aggressiveness, development of muscle mass and social outlook.

Balancing hormones with bioidentical hormones can alleviate fatigue, increase bone loss, boost sex drive, relieve hot flashes, stop night sweats, relieve anxiety attacks, stop weight gain, and make a woman feel younger. Bioidentical hormones are derived from plants. Bio identical testosterone is made from extracts from soy and yams.

Bioidentical testosterone creams are made when these extracts are combined with cream and applied directly to the skin. Taking testosterone pills is not recommended since their potency is reduced during the digestive process.

One safe way to balance hormones is with bioidentical hormones and perhaps a progesterone cream that is formulated from plant sources that our body synthesizes like it did our own natural progesterone. When buying progesterone cream, make certain that it contains at 20 mg of USP progesterone per dose. Progesterone helps our bodies use fat for energy.

Prognenolone is a hormone that is made from cholesterol. It helps relieve stress, lifts our mood, improves brain function and helps increase testosterone levels to improve metabolism.

Surviving Weight Loss Whiplash

Surviving weight loss whiplash can often be very painful. I call it weight loss whiplash because like driving a car down the road, you are going along on your journey to health and then wham! You get hit with something so unexpected. The pain is so excruciating. The scars it leaves and the pain you must endure may threaten to make you never want to drive again!

Often when you begin a weight loss journey the people in your life that you feel should be supportive aren't. This may make you resent them. It may make you doubt your own efforts or your ability to succeed. You may want to keep in mind that this journey is about you. Your health and longevity depend on it!

It may seem difficult to focus on yourself. You may find that you feel you are being selfish for focusing on your own needs. It is important that you take care of yourself. You have to believe that you are worth this journey! You may find that those who aren't supportive of your efforts may need to have their time with you limited or eliminated.

I had the experience of actually losing several friends as I began to lose weight. At first it was very painful. I felt so hurt and it made me doubt my efforts and success. It also made me wonder if the cost was really worth the benefit. I didn't want to lose friends or make the choice not to be around certain family members.

As I progressed in my journey I realized that I was eliminating the negative and making room for the positive. I had to choose who was in my circle of support. I soon realized if a person wasn't going to bring positive to the table, then they weren't going to be allowed at my table. And boy was I shocked when I realized that even meant a few family members and friends.

I noticed as I began to heal myself and progress in my weight loss, I began to make a new circle of friends. I found as I surrounded myself with positive people it made it easier for me to stay on track with my journey to health. I also found that being around people of like minds served my best interest. I now realize that had I not made the choice, no matter how painful at the time, to experience this weight loss whiplash I would still be well over 800 pounds or dead!

Get ready for the weight loss whiplash. Prepare yourself to make difficult choices. Think ahead about how you will feel when you are healthy. Think about how you will be able to better fulfill who you are meant to be. Surround yourself with positive! Love yourself and allow others to love you too.

If Done The Right Way, Fasting Can Facilitate Weight Loss

Fasting is a difficult technique when you consider it for weight loss, but if done the proper way, it can help you lose weight effectively. It is usually the idea of consuming enough nutrients to keep your body functioning. Eating too much can have harmful consequences on your health, and ruin your plan to achieve a significant weight loss.

Intermittent fasting can cut calories

Fasting can increase the hormones responsible for burning fat. Intermittent fasting is an alternate pattern of eating between periods of fasting and non-fasting. Unlike diet plans, there are no special meal plans; you fast for short periods after eating what you want. These short calorie deficits help you lose significant weight without being on a diet roller-coaster. Intermittent fasting actually gives your digestive system a break and in the process it burns extra calories stored in the body. Apart from cutting calories, intermittent fasting gives you more freedom with your diet. In between fasts, you can eat whatever you like without following a strict diet plan. Needless to say, the better diet you eat, the more effective and fast weight loss you achieve. That being said, if you fast two times a week without changing anything in your diet pattern, you can achieve your desired weight loss.

Is intermittent fasting healthy?

Before delving into this discussion, first of all, it is important to be aware of the difference between fasting and starvation. It is a well known fact that starvation implies lack of adequate nutrition. It is the most extreme form of malnutrition. But fasting is about calorie restriction without compromising with nutrition. In particular, when you fast, diet must be balanced (even if you restrict calories). One of the most common side effects of fasting is muscle loss. When your body is low on calories, it fetches not only from stored fat, but also from muscles. Fasting can also cause fatigue and hallucinations. If not done right, it is associated with many risks, and could do far more damage to health than good. So in conclusion, fasting is an extreme way to lose weight, and is probably not for everyone. It is by no means a "miracle cure" for weight gain, it's just a simple concept that can work effectively, if done under medical supervision. Do not fast if you are under medical treatment, pregnant or nursing, or recovering from surgery.

Weight management with slimming pills

For many people exercise and diet alone cannot provide effective weight loss. They need something extra to curb their hunger, boost their metabolism, or block the absorption of dietary fat into the body. This is where slimming pills comes into the picture - they are a type of prescription medicines that are formulated to help in weight loss. These pills can be categorized as appetite suppressants, metabolism boosters, and fat blockers. Xenical is one such slimming pill which belongs to the fat blockers group of drugs. It can prevent absorption of up to 30% of dietary fats in the body. Orlistat is the active ingredient in Xenical that blocks the action of an enzyme called lipase, which is responsible for breaking down of fats into smaller molecules in the stomach for absorption. Xenical slimming pills work effectively in conjunction with regular exercise and healthy diet to provide obesity treatment.

How to Lose Weight Fast

If you are worried about your weight, you may turn to the Internet for information. Unfortunately, the information available on the internet can be misleading at times. After skimming various health portals that make unsupported claims, some people come to believe that weight loss can be achieved overnight with the help of weight loss pills, which is far from the truth. Nothing comes easy and you need to work a little harder to lose weight. Just think how much weight you have gained and how long you took to gain it. Just as you have been gaining weight in the last 3-4 years, it will take some time to lose it. It is possible that you will have to wait for six months to lose the amount of body fat you gained in the past few years.

There are many risks associated with rapid weight loss. Many slimming pills available on the market discourage people from eating healthy food and this further adds to the problem. If you aim at losing weight quickly, you are likely to suffer from malnutrition, gallstones, dehydration, low blood sugar and mineral or electrolyte imbalances. If you go on a starvation mode, you will be risking your health and immunity. It is never recommended to skip meals and not giving your body enough nutrition.

One of the best ways to deal with your weight problem is consulting a doctor. Talk to your doctor about your weight problem and inform him/her about all the medications or supplements you are currently using for weight loss. Xenical can be a good option for people who want to lose weight reliably and safely. This pill helps you reach your slimming target even if you do not work too hard on it. You do not have to cut your diet drastically when you are on the medicine.

This drug works by blocking the fat that you consume through your daily diet. It allows you to eat moderate amounts of fat without worrying about gaining weight. More than one-third of fat is blocked from getting absorbed in the body. You must complete the entire course of medicine before you can notice any good results. It might take as many as 90 days to notice the impact of Xenical on your body weight. Clinical studies show that Xenical has some side effects but they can be prevented if you take the pill exactly as recommended by your doctor.

This pill offers numerous health benefits. It improves your eating habits and helps you stick to a nutritious and balanced dietary regimen. If you eat a meal with a high fat content while taking this pill, you will have side effects such as oily spotting, flatulence, oily stools and uncontrolled bowel movements. Because of these reasons, it is advisable that you take Xenical with a low-fat and low-calorie diet. This pill also reduces your risk of developing diabetes and delays the progression of type 2 diabetes. This drug reduces the level of insulin in your body and prevents coronary heart disease. Xenical is safer than other slimming pills as its ingredients do not remain inside the body for too long.

Webmaster associated with online clinic "HealthExpress" this site provides various information on Xenical (Orlistat) and helps people in curing Obesity, resources are available on site HealthExpress.co.uk.

How To Diet: Avoid Obesity And Serious Results - How To Lose Weight The Correct, Permanent Way

Obesity is a condition in which an individual has an excessive amount of body fat. The term "overweight" also connotes excess weight but usually indicates a lesser degree of extra fat compared to obesity. Obesity in most developed countries has reached epidemic proportions and is creating a health crisis. Government statistics indicate that more than $100 billion is spent per year in the management of obesity.

The BMI and waist circumference are commonly used as screening tools to determine the extent of the weight issue. In addition to the results of these tests, the physician takes into account the distribution of body fat...that is, where is much of the fat visibly located? The more serious distribution is around the abdomen...belly fat. This location seems to increase the risk of developing chronic diseases as a result of obesity.

Conditions which are known to be precipitated or worsened by obesity are called "comorbidities" and they include:

- high blood pressure

- heart disease

- stroke

- gall bladder disease

- liver disease

- GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disorder..."burping up" of stomach contents)

- sleep apnea and other respiratory disorders (such as bronchitis)

- depression

- arthritis

- varicose veins

- infertility

- diabetes

- cancer

...and there are many, many more!

Adults who had a high BMI as teenagers also have a greater risk of developing complications related to obesity than those whose BMI was in the normal range during adolescence.

Children need special attention because if obesity is allowed to persist, they will have been obese for a longer time when they reach adulthood. Thus they stand a greater risk of developing chronic diseases associated with obesity at an earlier age.

This sounds like a dismal situation. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. That "light" leads to a future in which obesity will no longer be a "health crisis" or an "epidemic". Rather, just as a mere three decades ago, obesity will be the exception rather than the rule.

And how will this happen?

We each need to take personal responsibility for ourselves and our families. We need to educate ourselves about the proper way to live and eat and thrive. This "new way" really isn't so new. It means returning to a healthier time when fast foods and pre-packaged meals and high-fat snacks and excessive portions and sugar-laden beverages were not even available.

- To regain health, let's cut down the portion sizes...today.

- We're eating two, or even three, times the amount of food we need. Stop it!

- We're guzzling tablespoons of sugar in our beverages...cut them out.

- Eliminate all sugar-sweetened beverages.

- And, let's get "on the move" again. Make motion a part of life...use the stairs (our ancestors didn't even have elevators. One might point out that buildings weren't a gazillion stories high then either.

- However, even if you can't walk the 118 flights of stairs to your office, you can walk two flights. Get out on floor number 116 and walk the rest of the way).

- Routinely use the restroom on another floor and use the stairs to get there. The point is, we need to revise our thinking about movement.

- Forget the all-or-nothing approach. Forget the marathon! Forget the Iditerod! Forget bench-pressing 300 pounds! Most of us are not designed for grueling workouts. However, we can walk the parking lot instead of choosing the closest place to the door. We can take a walk after dinner. We can play with the kids or the dog.

A few simple changes in lifestyle can make the difference between fitness and obesity...between health and sickness.

It's your choice; I hope you choose today to take control of your life.

Obesity and its side effects are really serious. If you're serious about taking control of your weight, I'll help you.

Obesity And BMI, How To Control Your Weight And Your BMI - How To Diet Correctly

BMI (body mass index) is a reliable tool the physician uses to diagnosis obesity. If the result of the BMI calculation is between 25 and 30, you are overweight. If the BMI is 30 or greater, one is considered to be obese. (Over 40 is considered "morbidly" obese). And surely we all know by now that obesity is dangerous for reasons of health. The occurrence of illness in a person with excess weight is greatly increased, and, the risk of death doubles if the BMI is 32, a mere two points over the maximum reading of 30. What are some of the conditions associated with obesity?

- Diabetes

- Heart attack

- Stroke

- GERD

- Cancer (uterus, breast, esophagus, colon, kidney and others)

- Gout

- Arthritis

- Sleep apnea

- Asthma

- Depression

- Urinary incontinence

Clearly, there are many reasons to deal with obesity for ourselves and our families, including our children. Here are three tips to help you get started:

1. Begin a habit of portion control. The USDA recommends that we fill half of our plate with fruits and vegetables, one-fourth with protein, and the remaining fourth with grains (preferably whole grains rather than items made with processed white flour).

Skim milk is the beverage of choice. Dish up the plates and serve them rather than putting platters and bowls on the table. Break the habit of second helpings. One plate is enough food. Studies show that many of us are eating two, or even three, times more food than we need for our good health).

2. Eliminate added sugar in your diet. The most egregious offender for excess sugar consumption is beverages that are "naturally" sweetened. This means, in most cases, that the drinks have been sweetened with sugar. One can of sugar- sweetened soda consumed every day can be the cause of a 15 pound weight gain at the end of the year. (Remember to pass this information along to your teens who need to lose weight).

Further, aside from weight issues, sugar is considered to be a food with "empty" calories; that is, it has no nutritional value.

3. Be very watchful over the kinds of fats you consume. Read the label to determine how many of the calories are from fat (should be 30% or less). Also check the amount of saturated fat. (This is the really bad kind). The saturated fat should be low and it should never account for more than 10% of the calories from fat.

Look for monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. These are the good guys.

Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in much of the Western world. It has been estimated by some experts that two-thirds of adults are overweight. Even more alarmingly, more than half of our children are carrying excess weight.

So, what can you do?

Obesity and your BMI. And specifically how to lower your BMI. by Sue Bristol, R.N. There is only one correct way to eat.

Do You Fall Within a Healthy Weight Range?

Though Americans have heard the warnings about our bulging bellies time and time again, a recent survey finds the message is falling on deaf ears. Most of us have no idea whether we fall into a healthy weight range or not and aren't all that bothered either way.

Just 57% of those who responded to the recent national survey, now in its sixth year, were worried about their weight, down from a high of 70% in 2010. - the lowest figure ever for the survey, a nationwide sampling of insights from consumers on food safety, nutrition and topics related to health.

Also surprising, the survey found that while taste continues to be the main reason we buy foods and drinks, price is becoming more important too. These trends are the same as those that drive us to choose items off a restaurant menu. Survey respondents this year report lower prices could make them choose more healthy options when shopping or dining out.

What's more, people who are trying to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight has dropped, now at 69%, compared to 77% just one year ago.

To some, this is a worrisome sign - signaling the "normalization" of a larger body size. As people around us get bigger, it makes us feel pretty good in comparison. And gives permission to hold onto extra weight ourselves.

All the while rates of diabetes, heart disease and preventable cancers are still going up.

Most people (42%) who responded to the survey don't bother to count calories, and many say they're not doing anything to counteract the amount of calories they take in compared to the number they burn with activity. Levels of inactivity are going up as well, more of us say we're sedentary compared to last year, at a high of 43%.

Still more people than in 2010 report that they have a healthy diet, and fewer Americans are making changes to the way they eat.

Fewer people who took part in the survey saw themselves as overweight compared to last year. Yet the weights and heights respondents supplied had about 34% overweight, another 34% as obese.

In the latest survey, half of the respondents considered themselves overweight, in comparison to 57% of respondents who said the same in the 2010 survey. The number who were honest enough to identify themselves as obese stayed steady at almost 8% for last year and this year.

Experts suggest that Americans are simply too overwhelmed... it's a challenge for them to pay attention to food intake instead of just looking to food for enjoyment.

There's also a sense of diet burnout. After you've tried all the quick fix, trendy solutions out there, and found no difference, you reach a stage where you just stop believing that the answer can be found. It's hard to face a problem you can't seem to fix, no matter how hard you try. Experts need to do more to show people how to make the changes that lead to weight loss and weight maintenance that falls within a healthy weight range, without having to be deprived or feel miserable.
