Open the fridge and see what you buy them. Look at how you feed them. Preventing childhood obesity starts with you! Change the eating habits of your children. Get them into an exercise routine. Yes that is right... Cut their access to social media. They are young and should be out running in the back yard. Not loafing around on chat sites, watching television, etc. Get involved in their lives and encourage them to play a sport. What People Need to Realize About Childhood Obesity

There has been a steady increase in childhood obesity in the United States and it continues to baffle and confound professionals of every stripe. Of course, it doesn't help the fact that almost all liquid beverages (and even solid foods) sold within the United States contain high levels of fructose corn syrup. But that is an issue for another time. What makes childhood obesity sad is that the kids who suffer from it seem like they haven't been given a fair shot at life, and that's terrible. Kids with childhood obesity are forced to deal with emotional abuse in the form of taunts and harsh words from their peers and physical problems like constant joint and back pain, arthritis and sometimes even Type II diabetes. This is a hard and terrible subject and we'll look at it some more in this article.

For kids, teens and adults who suffer from obesity, Type II diabetes is a real threat. Of course, it does make a certain sum of sense that it might happen. Type II is different from Type I in that sometimes Type II diabetes can be prevented. Risk factors for Type II diabetes include weight problems like obesity and a prolonged sedentary lifestyle. For those who are obese, their bodies are under a lot of extra pressure to produce more insulin. There is obviously, in this situation, a far greater amount of person who needs the hormone. Over time the body becomes more and more resistant to the insulin it produces and that is when Type II diabetes happens. Widespread research has proven that kids who suffer from obesity are far more likely to suffer from sleep apnea than kids who aren't obese. This condition is alarming because it leads to the blocking of a child's airway while he or she is sleeping. Kids who are overweight and obese are more likely to snore too but, according to researchers, that is actually deceiving. It's also possible that the snoring is a symptom of something called OSA or obstructive sleep apnea. One possible approach to the problem is a procedure called an adenotonsillectomy which is meant to treat the condition specifically in young people.

You can probably guess that there is a serious social stigma that gets assigned to obese kids and teenagers. Even just going to school each day has to be a terrible experience. The effects of chronic teasing, comments and even bullying will certainly cause life-long psychological scars or even severe damage. Every person is going to have a different response to this. The ripple effects of being obese are huge and serious, and we seriously think many obese teens and adults may seek counseling so they can deal with the damage done. There is a real problem with kids and teens who suffer from obesity that affects other people too. You should also think about this in terms of the cost it puts on society. Obese kids will usually become obese adults, and there are costs associated with medical, lost time from work, etc. This proves that obesity is really a problem for society even though that isn't at the forefront of most peoples' awareness.

It's easy to see that these children are at a major social and physical disadvantage once they have gotten to this point. We all know how hard it is to lose weight and that you have to be very determined and have lots of support to do it. Parents and friends need to offer as much support as they can. Young adults and kids alike are resilient people and have an easier time bouncing back once healthy directions have been taken. Visit child obesity blog and learn more how to prevent and cure it as well.

3 Simple Tips to Prevent Childhood Obesity

Childhood obesity unfortunately is no longer shocking, and a huge number of children are now suffering from this chronic condition. The numbers are rising every year and health professionals are concerned that it doesn't look to be improving. All children learn from their parents and often it is due to their bad eating habits that this problem is getting worse.

Although you may not want to deprive your children, you are in fact, making the problem far worse by allowing them to eat the foods they do. Parents need to provide healthy diets and eating the right foods will ensure that your children learn by example. There are several things that you can do as parents to ensure that your child's health and weight does not get any worse. Slowly you can ensure that your children appreciate and understand the right ways to eat foods.

Simple Tip #1 - Treats are great and all parents should have some in the house as rewards for good behavior, and to spoil the children. However, they should be kept as treats and not given out every day for no apparent reason. If your child begins to learn that they will receive the treats for no reason, they will not appreciate them.

Unfortunately, the best treats are always the most sugary and high in fat, very rarely will a child ask for fruit as a treat. All of the healthy options can be given throughout the day as your child snacks, and the treats kept separately for those special occasions. The obesity children suffer from is a result of them eating the wrong things and too much of them.

Simple Tip #2 - Although it can seem convenient to take the children grocery shopping, this can in fact be the worst thing that you can do. Not only will it make the whole trip far longer as they will ask for everything they know they are not allowed, but also it will cost you far more. Grocery stores love to target children, and know that placing sugary items everywhere will encourage the children to ask, nag and scream for them.

Child obesity does not happen overnight, and you have been encouraging bad habits for far too long, which need to be changed. If your children only have healthy food in the house, they will have no other options other than to eat these foods.

Simple Tip #3 - Although diet is very important, exercise is equally vital to help with the obesity children are suffering.

Getting your child up and moving is essential, and there are a huge number of different activities they can do. The word sports scare some children, and not all children enjoy exercising, however, even small things like walking and running can help to get your child active. There are many games consoles today that allow your children to be active without leaving the house.

Making the effort to find solutions to your child's health, you will be helping to educate the next generation. If your children grow up leading healthy lifestyles, they will pass this information on to their children. Hopefully if all parents make the effort the problem of child obesity can be dealt with before it is too late.
