Children's Health - Steps to Prevent Childhood Obesity

So you eat out regularly and the children tag along as well. You spoil them with all the junk food they want. You think that you are a good parent because you give your children what they require.

You look at your children and realise that they are FAT! They don't do sport, hate exercise but love doing other less stressful thing. Obesity has never been a problem amongst children like it is today. Preventing childhood obesity is not as difficult as it may seem. It starts with you the parent. Open the fridge and see what you buy them. Look at how you feed them. Preventing childhood obesity starts with you! Change the eating habits of your children. Get them into an exercise routine. Yes that is right... Cut their access to social media. They are young and should be out running in the back yard. Not loafing around on chat sites, watching television, etc. Get involved in their lives and encourage them to play a sport. And I do not mean that they play baseball on their game console and your encouragement ends with you playing with them.

A healthy diet, good excercise and quality family time will prevent childhood obesity making an unhealthy appearance in your family. You do know that fat children develop breathing problems, heart problems (blood pressure either too high or too low) and they are tired most of the time.

Now is the time to really act and stop this from ruining the next generation.

Childhood obesity is a world-wide problem. The more junk food we consume the more unhealthy we become. And if it is okay for us to eat, then so it will be for our children. We even force them to finish their soda, because you paid for it and hate it when they waste food that you have paid for.

I have more helpful hints that you may find interesting and implement in your life. It will be beneficial for your whole family. Obesity is just as serious as some of the most dangerous diseases out there in the world. Be wise and act now. These words may sound like a infomercial, but I will say it over and over till I can say it no more.

Please visit my blog site, read through the information there. If you are like me and have fat child/ren, then I urge you to read blog and many others that I have found quite useful. Their links can be found on my site as well.

Is the Body Mass Index the Best Measure for Health?

There's a photo of plus size model, Tara Lynn, on the cover of French Elle causing quite a stir on Facebook. To date, more than 224,000 people "Liked" the image, more than 156,000 shared the image, and more than 71,000 commented on the image.

So what?

That's a fair question. Although Tara's nude with her arms in strategic places, the image in isolation probably wouldn't have inspired me to write this article. What held my attention was the accompanying caption. The person who posted this image describes a gym that asked its patrons whether they want to be a mermaid or a whale. Not only does she choose to be a whale, she includes her Theory on Weight Gain, "We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn't enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies. We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated. Every time I see my curves in the mirror, I tell myself: 'How amazing am I?!'"

Because you cannot judge health from appearance alone, the purpose of this article is to determine whether the body mass index (BMI) is the best measure for health. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 33 percent of U.S. adults and 17 percent of children and adolescents aged 2 to 19 are obese. For the purpose of clarity, the CDC adheres to the common definition of obesity as a BMI of 30 or higher. For scoping purposes, this article will focus on the term obesity because medical research directly correlates obesity to other degenerative health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and some cancers.

Many factors contribute to obesity such as heredity, environmental circumstances, and personal choices. Genetic disorders such as Bardet-Biedl syndrome and Prader-Willi syndrome directly lead to obesity. Cushing's disease, polycystic ovary syndrome, and medicinal drugs such as steroids and some antidepressants may also cause weight gain.

Regardless of the catalyst, weight gain is directly attributable to consuming more calories than a person's level of physical activity level is able to burn. Put differently, the Law of Thermodynamics states one must burn more calories than one consumes to lose weight. Our body converts what we eat and drink into energy and burns that energy throughout the day, even while at rest. We burn calories at varying metabolic rates. As such, individuals have varying daily caloric intake requirements to maintain normal bodily functions-again, based on how quickly we burn the calories we consume, our heredity, individual environmental circumstances, and our personal preferences for weight loss, balance, and gain. Hence, if a person has a sedentary lifestyle, the slower metabolism yields a lower caloric intake requirement.

Speaking generally, health is a state of being free of illness or injury while being of sound mind. Let's take this further. Health is a measurement of efficiency in the body's functions, including cardiorespiratory and metabolic efficiency. The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) recommends aerobic exercise 5 days a week for 30 cumulative minutes per day while maintaining a heart rate between 65 and 90 percent of the person's maximum heart rate. By cumulative, this means you can work out 3 times at 10 minutes each session to accumulate 30 minutes for the day. Some ways to do this include walking the neighborhood (and take your family with you), setting up shop outdoors (play badminton in the backyard, tag, and hide and seek), and walking the stairs to do laundry and household chores.

Unfortunately, the difference between our vehicle's gas tank and our stomachs is that our gas tanks can only hold a limited amount of gas. If we try to put too much gas in the tank, the excess amount will overflow. However, our stomachs not only accept excessive amounts of food, our bodies actually adapt to the excessive food by storing the additional calories as fat. Fat, in and of its self, is not unhealthy. Our bodies rely on fat as an energy source, and interestingly enough, our bodies rely on fat as another means to protect our organs.

At age 27, Tara Lynn is a size 16 at 5' 9". She has a bust size of 38 inches, her waist is 32 inches, hips are 46 inches, and she weighs approximately 220 pounds (depending on your source). With these measurements, her BMI is 32.5 while her waist-to-hip ratio is 0.696 (i.e., pear shape, and visually, many consider this nearly perfect: 0.7 for women and 0.9 for men).

Again, so what? Is she healthy or not? Without further information (e.g., Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire and fitness assessment), we shouldn't try to make that determination. However, her BMI is indicative of being at risk for heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and some cancers, and as such, she needs to monitor her cardiorespiratory health proactively.

No one should gauge his or her health on appearances alone. Tara Lynn supports this and is aware that she will help to mitigate her health risks by remaining active. As long as she continues to moderate the nutrition in her diet and remain physically active, she will continue to counter the health risks associated with a higher BMI.

Obesity Health Risks And Treatment

I'm sure you already know that obesity is an epidemic in the United States. Collected data shows that obesity continues to rise year after year. It would probably be a good idea if you prioritized healthy habits to the top of your to-do list. What is even more upsetting is that not only are adults suffering from obesity and the chronic diseases that come along with it, but children as well. To be exact, childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years. But according to a few studies, the rise of obesity is slowing down and believed to be because of health-related media or a biologic limitation on obesity.

What would be considered a healthy weight for me?

According to the Body Mass Index (BMI) which is determined by height and weight, if your BMI is 18-24, you are considered healthy. If your BMI is 18 or lower you are considered underweight, which also has its health problems. If your BMI is anywhere from 25-29, you are considered overweight. If it's between 30 and 39, you'd be in the obese category. And anything over a BMI of 39 would be considered extremely obese. Take into consideration that a muscular body builder with a BMI of 35 wouldn't necessarily mean that he was overweight. This is because a BMI chart does not take body fat percentage into consideration. But you should have no problem categorizing yourself into one of these groups because you should have a decent idea of whether you are overly muscular or overweight.

Obesity is not something to take for granted and if you are overweight or obese than you should take action now and make necessary lifestyle changes in order to become healthier. Many health problems can arise from being obese such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis, certain types of cancers, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, and obstructive sleep apnea. Obesity can also significantly reduce your life expectancy.

I am most definitely not trying to scare anyone with this information, but I am trying to send a message that could potentially help someone decide to change their life around for the benefit of well-being.

What advice can be given to someone who is overweight or obese?

Being overweight and/or obese doesn't have to be a permanent thing. It is very possible to change your future into a healthier one.

What is the main treatment for obesity?

Diet and Exercise! Something is better than nothing. Only 30 minutes of exercise each day can significantly help reduce health risks. You obviously know your body better than anyone else, or at least I would think so. That being said, don't push yourself to hard when you begin an exercise program. The real trick is to start from the bottom and gradually build yourself up. I exercise 5-6 days per week but that doesn't mean I'd recommend the same training program for someone who hasn't exercised at all in the last year and is suffering from serious health risks. So just to point you in the right direction, try exercising for 30 minutes, 3 days a week which is ideal. Then after 3 weeks or so, you may choose to increase it to 4 days per week. You could also increase the duration of your workout to 40, 50, or even 60 minutes. But I wouldn't suggest exercising for over 90 minutes. You want to make sure you are working out smarter. Not sure of what types of exercises to do? Do some cardiovascular exercises, go for a nice stroll around your neighborhood, play with your dog or kids, pick up a hobby like gardening, join a gym or maybe a boot camp. Any type of exercise is 100 times better than no exercise at all. My best advice is to keep with your program. Don't give up. Realistically it won't happen over night but consistency, hard work, and dedication will bring you the best results. Find out the best way cardio to burn fat.

As for dieting try sticking to real foods! That means if you can't hunt it, fish it, grow it, or ferment it then you probably shouldn't be eating it. If you never liked fruits and vegetables now is the time to start liking them. Fruits and vegetables especially contain essential vitamins and minerals that can boost your metabolism and assist with weight lost. If you do slip up and eat something you know you shouldn't have don't be so hard on yourself. Make a mental reminder of your slip up and try harder the next time a delicious distraction gets in your way to a sexy body. Try eating less more often. Portion your food if you want to speed up your metabolism. Rather than eating 3 big meals try consuming 4-6 smaller meals. And an emphasis on not spending too much time staring at a scale rather figure the progression of your performance by the way you fit into your clothes. You never know if you're replacing fat for lean muscle, which is heavier.

The trick is to Plan, Track, and Modify your program. Those actions are what I consider to be "The 3 keys to a Sexy Body".

My last piece of advice is to not get distracted by the little details that usually just become overwhelming and often leads to giving up. Please... Don't give up!

I also found that surrounding yourself with positive people who support your goals can really help you mentally and emotionally. Stay away from negativity! Tell everyone what you are up to because it will boost your determination to assure you reach your goal. Lastly, believe you can do it and believe it is possible. Realize that anything you set your mind to can be accomplished.

The growth of the wine can be a health and wellbeing?

There are three grades, in order to make a great meal and food is the only one.
Tasty dish goes without saying, but let's not forget good supporters and a cosy wine in importance. Some scientific research indicates that the vine is not only a good meal for the key, but is also good for us.

This means that we sit down to eat the glass, the next time we have for Cabernet Sauvignon as well as to improve the health of us-and very olemuksemme?
The idea that wine is good for us, health has been around for some time, but the scientific basis was found in the 1990s. It was a Sunday 17 November 1991, the French medical researcher at the University of Bordeaux, Serge Renaud announced the popular American TV News program 60 minutes that his countrymen a fondness for wine, the share of their heart disease deaths at low speed. 44% of the sales of wine in America in the Tomahawk in the next four weeks. The wine was now a health tonic.

Health benefits of wine is a bit more complicated than Dr. Renaud, originally drawn up. First of all, it is important to remember that alcohol can have some very serious adverse reactions to health and society. When too much is consumed, such as wine and other alcoholic beverages, drinking, can affect the immune system, the risk of certain cancers and damage the liver and brain. However, the wine (especially red wine), believed to be useful.

Serge Renaud in the original investigation, it was pointed out that the heart coronary artery disease is linked to the high intake of saturated fats are usually in most countries. The situation appears to be reversed in France, where deaths from heart disease are much smaller than many developed countries, such as, respectively, in the United Kingdom, despite plenty of eating cheese, pudding, and the French pate '. Dr. Reynaud, the French situation peculiar to this is called a Paradox. He declared in the original investigation that the alcohol in the blood also worked as the mechanism of haemostatic wine is considered to be properly balanced in the blood.

Landmark study of piece n of Renaud, as it has been a huge amount of wine in the Health benefits of the research. Sometimes it seems like the new research is published in a few weeks, saying in the wine or spirit is the life of a wonder drug, or a deeply dangerous substance. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle of wine drunk can control as part of a healthy diet. So we are sure that you do not need to feel guilty about picking up a bottle of fruity, delicious Merlot we go to marks and Spencer, the next time. But what is the wine, contributes significantly to the health of it, which features?

The health benefits of wine is believed to be largely on the top of the antioxidants. Today, we all seem to be mad to antioxidants. Their benefits are being extolled in magazines, television and food packaging, but what are these mysterious little fellas? Very short antioxidants are substances that protect the cells in the US, free from the effects of the radicals. Free radicals have nothing to do with anarchism, but the molecules are interfering with our bodies. Antioxidants are found in fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as some of the meat and fish. Food, higher than normal concentrations of antioxidants called super foods. Overall, the antioxidants is good and they are found in the wine.

Originally the antioxidants found in the wine comes from grapes which have been prepared. Grapes and wine polyphenol antioxidants is the type of the antioxidants found in green tea and hot chocolate, among other things,. The most important antioxidants are found in the wine, resveratrol, which is the condensed grape skins. This means that red wine, which retrieves the color of the grape skins and taste, it is more than white wine resveratrol. So, red wine is thought to be the provision of health, in particular.

One of the antioxidants found in the wines of the main advantages are their cancer preventing properties. International Journal of Cancer published in 2004, the investigation found that drinking a glass or two of red wine per day may be of interest for half of the prostate cancer. This might also be something related to the study of the more recent resveratrol in wine, as proposed by. In 2008, the University of Rochester Medical Center researchers have found a cancer of the Pancreas, the cells after irradiation is currently the pre-treated and resveratrol.

Return to cardiovascular diseases (CVD), Dr. Michel de Lorgeril was found during the investigation, Serge Renaud, a colleague was released in 2002 that moderate red wine drinking reduces the risk of attack on the heart, the second. This could very well relate to the group known as saponins, the existence of chemicals red wine. Found in grapes, as well as olive oil, soya saponins skins, preventing the absorption of cholesterol.
The existence of the saporins red wine has been Andrew Waterhouse, Professor of Oenology (wine chemistry) at the University of California, Davis, which also found that the quantity of the chemical from the grapes. Among the koestaa, the Davis group, the red wines of Red Zinfandel, Syrah was detected containing a saporins of the best second-highest. Then, the Pinot noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, which each accounted for approximately the same amount. White wine was much less saporin.

These seemingly beneficial chemicals in red wine, despite the difficulties presented to the French Paradox. The French way of life, was questioned by the wholesomeness (they really are not that healthy and coronary artery disease, in accordance with the declared or rises, because they eat more, really, health policies, in particular, the consumption of food containing transfats)-and to pay attention to other factors that may account for the healthiness of the French (they currently eat less and get more transfats, in the light of the Sun, which will increase in vitamin D and pääväylistä is good).

All the science that has some of the opinion, however, a difference seems to have good reason to believe that drinking red wine is good for you and moderation on your wellbeing. There is nothing quite like sitting laughing with friends in a good dinner and a glass of good wine. It is so good for the soul.

This is a good wine-lovers, so there I guess we toast the good news. Just make sure it is the only one in a glass (or two for special occasions), but then again is the second glass-I look forward to tomorrow, the inventory put-away.
